Burtons Legless lizard The Burtons Legless lizard Lialis burtonis is very common and has a huge distribution area in Australia. Burtons have an unusual long snout which makes it very easy to identify. They colouration varies greatly and can be found completely with out body pattern to individuals that elongated lateral line running down its entire body length. Their diet consists of other lizards and they are run down their prey with considerable stealth. It is not uncommon to find them basking in middle of the roads at night time. The burtons lizards are primarily terrestrial and seem to prefer drier habitats of low dense bushes where they hide in amongst the leaf litter or under fallen logs or debris. This is an egg laying species and they lay two eggs per clutch.
